FAQs

Q: Do brokers charge more for insurance?

A: The insurance premium you pay as a customer does not change if you go through an insurance broker. Your broker is there to make sure you receive the best possible coverage and service available. They draw on the various insurance companies they represent to source the best possible quote on your behalf, using their competitive leverage. Their compensation does not come from your pocket, keeping your policy pricing as low as possible.

Q: Do I get a discount if I have more than one insurance policy?

A: Some insurance companies offer multi-policy discounts that may greatly reduce any additional premiums paid by a policy holder. Your broker will know what discounts you qualify for, and will review your options to insure your needs are met in a cost-effective way. Some of our firm's programs include:

  • Business Insurance
  • My Personal Auto
  • My Personal Home
  • My Boat Insurance
  • My RV and Travel Trailer Insurance
  • My Motorcycle Insurance
  • My Life Insurance
  • My Living Benefits
  • My Mortgage Life Insurance
  • Employees Benefits
  • Travel Insurance

Q: Does everyone really need life insurance?

A: Life insurance serves as a benefit to ones' dependents after they have passed on. If you have no dependents, you probably don't need life insurance. Our rule of thumb asks: would the absence of your income substantially affect the well-being of your loved ones? If yes, then life insurance is a good idea.

Q: How does the points-system affect my auto insurance rate?

A: The Ontario points-system tracks your insurance record and assigns traffic violations specific point values. If you are guilty of an infraction, points are added to your driving record, and if you accumulate a certain number - then your insurance rates will rise to reflect this. Parking tickets are not point-infractions.

Q: Do I need a professional advisor to handle my insurance account?

A: Just as you would trust a financial planner to provide professional advice, you can trust MyInsruanceBroker's expertise to insure you receive comprehensive coverage. Each insurance risk is unique, and varies from customer to customer. So having an insurance broker as a trustworthy advisor helps you feel confident that someone is always behind you.

Q: Do insurance companies really care about the welfare of their clients?

A: There is a stereotype that insurance companies don't care enough about their customers to really cover their needs. This is definitely not the case for MyInsuranceBroker, and we pride ourselves on working in-depth with our clients and learning about their unique situations so that we may better-represent them. As a community-centered firm, we have seen our clients grow over the years of our service, and now proudly represent their kids and grandkids.

General Automobile Information:

Every year, the Ontario Consumer Information Centre fields thousands of automobile insurance questions from policyholders across the country. Here are some take-away points for you:

  • Automobile insurance is a complex, and as a policyholder, you should understand every detail of your policy. Unfortunately, few people bother to even read their policies until a crisis-situation arises (accident, theft etc.). Empower yourself by understanding your depth of coverage.
  • Ontario automobile policies and endorsements* should have the same wording regardless of the issuing insurance company because all forms are approved by the Financial Services Commission.
  • Endorsements are add-ons to basic coverage. Your MyInsuranceBroker representative will help you decide what coverage is best suited for you.
With the permission of the IBC, we have provided five documents for you to help answer more questions that often arise when discussing car insurance in Ontario. You can always contact your MyInsuranceBroker advisor with more questions or if you would like more information.
